This meeting is organised by West Asia Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP) of the UNEP Law Division OzonAction in partnership with the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol and the Secretariat General of Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
The meeting, which brings together National Ozone Officers and representatives of national standardization authorities from the GCC countries, comes based on one of the recommendations adopted at the “Thematic Technical Meeting on the Development and Adoption of Standards as required under the Kigali Amendment (KA) / Montreal Protocol (MP) held on September 11-12, 2022 in Dubai, requesting OzonAction’s Compliance Assistance Programme in West Asia to support countries in enhancing cooperation between NOUs and standards authorities and facilitating the adoption/update of required standards for introduction of HFCs alternatives.
The main objective of the meeting is to discuss and agree on a draft roadmap for West Asia countries to develop/update the RACHP national and regional standards as required under the Montreal Protocol and its amendments and in line with international standards, with the aim to facilitate the introduction of low and medium-GWP technologies into the market, and promote safe handling of flammable and higher toxicity alternatives.
