The meeting is organised by UNEP OzonAction. This meeting is in line with the CAP 2022 workplan, specifically in relation to the activities supporting Outcome 8 – providing assistance to Article 5 parties to conceive, prepare and submit new Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) phase-down projects and develop HFC phase-down strategies. Additionally, it is in line with the activities supporting Outcome 7 – assisting the National Ozone Units (NOUs) to investigate and understand their countries' overall refrigerant consumption patterns and RAC market to help inform their future HFC phase-down strategies.
This meeting will serve as an orientation and a capacity building meeting for national experts and NOUs, and the topics of data collection, KIP design, and utilization of OzonAction tools and products will be thoroughly discussed. This will facilitate and streamline the preparation of KIPs in the region and increase the quality of project proposals. Accordingly, this event is designed to be as the kick-off capacity building and coordination tool for KIPs preparation to streamline the process and ensure quality of large number of projects to be prepared by UNEP OzonAction during the current and next year.
Objectives of the Workshop:
The Thematic workshop on KIP preparation is an orientation and a capacity building workshop for NOOs and regional/national experts. The topics of data collection, KIP design, and utilization of OzonAction tools and products will be thoroughly discussed. It is expected that the experts participating at this meeting will be able to organize data collection process at the national level, and act as trainers in the similar capacity building activities locally and/or for other countries in the region. All of this will facilitate and streamline the preparation of KIPs in the region and increase the quality of project proposals
Accordingly, OzonAction CAP has structured the program of the KIP Preparation Workshop to ensure they address the most urgent and important emerging issues being faced by African Parties and to ensure that the meetings address the current and forthcoming compliance needs both towards Montreal Protocol control measures and MLF funded projects.
